Tea Party 2017

Cameron

When Cameron came to the Centre at the age of five he was a sweet kid who could
only say a few words and couldn't use a pen.  We taught him to use a big Intellikeys keyboard to make sentences and speak them electronically.

He still can’t speak much, but with the help of his family he’s made his way through mainstream primary and secondary education.  Now he’s studying Digital Literacy at Deakin University, as part of an Associate Arts Degree.
We’ve been with him all the way.

I’ve been going to the Centre since I was very young.  Without Rosie, I believe I would have been labeled as unintelligent and not be able to communicate.  Rosie trusts in my intelligence and pushes me to keep exploring my abilities.

It’s great to be learning at university, and I believe that every student needs to be given that opportunity.

Attending the Centre has enabled me to have a voice and a say in the society I want to live in.

Recently the Anne McDonald Centre has changed the way the Department of
Education & Training assesses children with little or no speech.  It's a good start, but more things need to change.  Unless we work together – unless the Centre has your support – other children like Cameron will be left behind.

Finally, from Cameron -

It was worth it.

Please help us to help more Camerons.

Think how lucky you are to be able to talk.

And ask yourself what you can do to help those who can’t.
